IB Education

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student. It offers four programs for students aged 3 to 19 to help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. IB was founded in 1968 and currently works with over 1,236,000 students in 3,955 schools located in 147 countries.

Rochester Montessori School became an authorized IB World School in June, 2013, and offers the IB Middle Years Programme for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. To learn more about the IB Middle Years Programme, please visit the IB MYP Homepage. To learn more about the IB MYP curriculum at RMS, please reference the RMS Middle School Handbook.

The mission of the IB program is as follows:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
