Founded in 1968, Rochester Montessori is an established Montessori school offering a progressive and supportive community, not just for students, but also for faculty. Our school is located on 15 beautiful acres in a growing city and opportunities for growth and exploration abound both inside the classroom and throughout the town.

We continue to grow each year and currently enroll over 220 children from 18 months through 9th grade, offering an authentic Montessori experience and an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Middle Years Program for our 6th through 9th grade students. Our building was designed by our Montessori community with education as its core purpose and is maintained in an effort to support our mission and vision.

RMS is seeking candidates for a part time Music Guide (teacher) position working with grades K-9, starting in the 2023/24 school year. This is a great opportunity to work in a well-established Montessori school with excellent support. This comes from a dynamic leadership team and  joined by experienced peers and colleagues within the community. RMS prides itself on its cultural diversity, commitment to sustainability, and relationship with the natural world on our 15 acre bluffside campus.

RMS offers a competitive compensation package with a teacher salary range of $20-25/hr,  based on experience and educational background. Benefits include RMS tuition discount, paid personal time and sick time, short term disability, long term disability, and simple retirement plan.

This position will work 20-25 hours per week with prep time built into the schedule, starting in mid-August for the 2023/24 school year.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a music program based on child interest and whenever possible foster child lead learning
  • Thrive working with small groups of children ages 6-12 
  • Foster large musical projects for middle school students 
  • Cultivate music appreciation with a variety of cultural lessons and experiences in music
  • Sing songs and play on Orff, world, and traditional musical instruments
  • Provide short lessons about music history and world music
  • Develop a ‘catalog’ of a variety of songs for the school to be able to sing at small and large group gatherings
  • Devote adequate time for planning and preparation throughout the year
  • Maintain a positive learning environment
  • Integrate cultural competency into lessons across the curriculum, model anti-racist and anti-biased practices and values
  • Work as a part of the RMS faculty and school community, regularly attending and constructively contributing to meetings, events and other school activities
  • Connect and collaborate other faculty and staff supporting students throughout the school day and year to create a cohesive educational experience for students in all parts of their learning and development
  • Complete student paperwork and records efficiently as required
  • Engage in professional development in order to improve knowledge, skills and overall impact in the classroom with children
  • Promote an enthusiasm for and understanding of  the RMS mission, vision and values with children and in partnership with parents
  • Uphold and reinforce positive behavior by modeling and using established RMS values

Qualifications:

RMS is looking for a musician with experience in education and performance.  A degree in music education is preferred but not required.  Knowledge or experience in Montessori is also helpful but not required.  We plan to collaborate with an individual and utilize their expertise to build our music program to a level befitting of our unique and wonderful school.

RMS has immediate openings to expand our on-call Substitute and Support Staff pool for our Toddler, Children’s House, and Elementary classrooms.  Ideal candidates will have a schedule that allows for flexibility between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:30 pm and feel comfortable leading a classroom or group.  At least two years of college credits toward an education-related degree is preferred. Rochester Montessori School is always seeking qualified Guides (lead teachers) who are excited to work collaboratively within a classroom team. As the lead guide, this position applies their expertise to create, inspire, and direct learning to meet the needs of children individually.    This position is responsible for preparing an environment that is suitable for the children within the classroom community.  Guides are used at all program levels: Toddler, Children’s House, Elementary, and the Middle Years Program.    

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications for the applicable classroom level:
    • Montessori certification from an accredited organization (AMS, AMI, MACTE, etc) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (or similar) and a desire to complete a Montessori diploma; or
    • Experience in an IB Accredited Program
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with diverse students and families
  • A passion for supporting children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience in a Montessori toddler community preferred

RMS is always seeking enthusiastic classroom Assistants to help provide a warm and nurturing environment under the direction of the Guide (lead teacher.)  Position works cohesively with the Guide and duties range from organizing materials to guiding the children through self-directed activities. Under the Guide’s discretion, the assistant will assist in the overall use of assessment tools/strategies to help make instructional decisions, complete/maintain records and/or reports and participate in activities that nurture a productive learning environment. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; two years of college coursework in education preferred
  • Experience working in a Montessori classroom environment preferred
  • Experience working with diverse students and families
