Founded in 1968, Rochester Montessori is an established Montessori school offering a progressive and supportive community, not just for students, but also for faculty. Our school is located on 15 beautiful acres in a growing city and opportunities for growth and exploration abound both inside the classroom and throughout the town.

We continue to grow each year and currently enroll over 220 children from 18 months through 9th grade, offering an authentic Montessori experience and an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Middle Years Program for our 6th through 9th grade students. Our building was designed by our Montessori community with education as its core purpose and is maintained in an effort to support our mission and vision.

Join our growing school and work with a dynamic team of educators. We are looking for an Accountant to independently manage all financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets, as part of a robust administrative team. Accountant responsibilities include auditing financial documents and procedures, reconciling bank statements, and calculating tax payments and returns. To be successful in this role, you should have previous experience with accrual accounting, bookkeeping, and a flair for spotting numerical mistakes. Ultimately, you will provide us with accurate quantitative information on the financial position, liquidity, and cash flows, while ensuring we’re compliant with all tax regulations. The position includes paid time off and a staff discount on tuition.
Rochester Montessori School has served children in Rochester since 1968 and currently enrolls students aged 18 months to 9th grade. Responsibilities
  • Manage all accounting transactions
  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable utilizing tuition management systems
  • Assist with budget forecasts
  • Publish financial statements with set deadlines
  • Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Ensure timely bank payments
  • Compute taxes and prepare tax returns
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements
  • Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity
  • Audit financial transactions and documents
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary
  • Comply with financial policies and regulations
Skills
  • Work experience as an Accountant
  • Excellent knowledge of accrual accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Enjoys interacting with staff and customers with an ability to explain financial practices and diffuse disagreements and issues revolving around financial issues with compassion and grace
  • Hands-on experience with sub-ledgers and accounting software like QuickBooks Online
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including pivot tables
  • Experience with general ledger functions
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant degree – BS preferred
  • Additional certification (CPA or CMA) is a plus
  • Nonprofit experience is strongly preferred
  • Salary is commensurate with experience

RMS has immediate openings to expand our on-call Substitute and Support Staff pool for our Toddler, Children’s House, and Elementary classrooms.  Ideal candidates will have a schedule that allows for flexibility between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:30 pm and feel comfortable leading a classroom or group.  At least two years of college credits toward an education-related degree is preferred. Rochester Montessori School is always seeking qualified Guides (lead teachers) who are excited to work collaboratively within a classroom team. As the lead guide, this position applies their expertise to create, inspire, and direct learning to meet the needs of children individually.    This position is responsible for preparing an environment that is suitable for the children within the classroom community.  Guides are used at all program levels: Toddler, Children’s House, Elementary, and the Middle Years Program.    

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications for the applicable classroom level:
    • Montessori certification from an accredited organization (AMS, AMI, MACTE, etc) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (or similar) and a desire to complete a Montessori diploma; or
    • Experience in an IB Accredited Program
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working with diverse students and families
  • A passion for supporting children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience in a Montessori toddler community preferred
  • Ability to analyze student behavior and apply appropriate intervention
  • Strong organizational and classroom management skills, ability to multi-task, and self-initiative required

RMS is always seeking enthusiastic classroom Assistants to help provide a warm and nurturing environment under the direction of the Guide (lead teacher.)  Position works cohesively with the Guide and duties range from organizing materials to guiding the children through self-directed activities. Under the Guide’s discretion, the assistant will assist in the overall use of assessment tools/strategies to help make instructional decisions, complete/maintain records and/or reports and participate in activities that nurture a productive learning environment. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; two years of college coursework in education preferred
  • Experience working in a Montessori classroom environment preferred
  • Experience working with diverse students and families
